lessons
How old do you have to be to start lessons?
We have teachers that can teach pre-school age children to adults. However, we do suggest that students do not begin playing certain instruments until they reach an age that they will benefit from instruction.
How long are lessons?
Lessons are 30 minutes in length. Group lessons are longer and set by the teacher depending on the size and level of the group.
When will I have a lesson?
Lessons are scheduled normally between 3:00 pm and 9:00 pm Monday through Thursday. However, lessons may be scheduled outside the normal hours to accommodate the schedules of the students and teachers.
What if I have no previous musical experience or knowledge?
Not a problem. We accept new beginners all the way to advanced students.
What about focusing on certain musical styles in lessons?
Our teachers have diverse backgrounds. Intermediate to advanced students wanting to learn a style exclusively will be placed into a studio with a teacher suited for that style (space pending.) All our instructors are qualified to introduce beginners to diverse musical
styles.
How much will lessons cost? (How much is tuition?)
Music lessons have a $30.00 registration fee for the year and four half hour weekly lessons for $109.00. A discount will be given for 2 or more students in a family.
Can I leave my kids during my child’s lesson?
Yes. All students are supervised by an adult instructor during their lesson. Parents may attend lessons but are not required to.
Should I attend my child's lesson or class?
While it is not required that parents attend their child’s lesson, it is highly recommended parents take a concerted effort in their child’s artistic development. Students with parental involvement and encouragement have greater success.
How much should my child practice?
Students and parents are encouraged to discuss practice techniques, including duration and frequency, with their instructor.
What should I bring to my first lesson?
Students with previous instruction should bring books and materials used with previous instructors. New students are not required to bring lesson books. At the first lesson, the instructor will evaluate the student’s capabilities and potential to advise what books or materials should be acquired.
If my child or I take piano lessons will a small keyboard do okay?
It is always better to have access to an acoustic piano. The most important thing is that the instrument used has full-size weighted keys. Many music stores here in Austin offer
affordable rentals on acoustic pianos and on better quality digital pianos. We have a deal with some of the music stores in Austin and can refer you to them.
What about make up lessons?
Our teachers teach on a schedule they provide us. Lesson times are assigned on a first come first serve basis and are assigned exclusively to you. When a student does not arrive for their lesson, that slot is seen as a great loss because the time that was missed could be assigned to another student. We only excuse emergencies, such as death or extreme illness. We need at least 24 hours notice to inform the instructor and arrange the possibility of a make up lesson, otherwise you will be charged for that lesson. We cannot guarantee a make up lesson, however: the more notice you give, the greater the chances are of arranging a make up or lesson time readjustment.
Canceled lessons, without fair notice to us, will not be credited to your account. (An analogy of this can be the services you pay for a gym or premium television services: if you do not work out one week or watch TV for a week, you are not refunded for non-usage.) Excessive cancellation may also result in the loss of your time slot.
Many of our teachers perform professionally. Occasionally, a teacher may be called away to a performance or other engagement. If a teacher cancels your lesson and we cannot arrange a make up or substitute, your account will receive a credit.
How does your tuition work?
See our tuition page. Our studio managers will be happy to go over our payment methods with you.
